Torquay (VIC) Froth and Bubble Festival

On Australia Day 2006, The Adam Lindsay Gordon Commemorative Committee was formed
to promote Australia’s first poet of note. The poetry of Adam Lindsay Gordon became popular after his
death to the extent that The Australian Literature Society was formed at an evening discussing his poems.

The foundations were also laid for the poet such as  Paterson and Lawson to follow. The Impressionist painters
used themes from his poems for their paintings and they went on to form The Heidelberg School.

The famous line “Life is mostly froth and bubble” has been used by the committee for their annual literary festival.
